Does the AAF contain the audio?

Yes. AAFx embeds the audio essence in the file, so the delivery is self-contained. A mixer who has never seen the original rushes can open it without relinking media.

Can I see the session before conversion?

Yes. AAFx shows the roles, tracks, clips, missing media, excluded clips and expected file size before it writes anything.

Do I need ffmpeg, Homebrew or Terminal?

No. The application includes the tools it needs to read the supported media containers. There is nothing else to install or download at first launch.

Does it work with the latest Final Cut XML?

AAFx supports FCPXML 1.8 through 1.14 and Final Cut Pro 10.4 through 12.3, including the .fcpxmld bundle format.
